Doris Hamilton White Memorial Scholarship

Doris Wiley Hamilton White, a longtime resident of Chehalis, passed away September 26, 2019. She was born November 24, 1920 in Seattle and moved as a child to Chehalis from Friday Harbor. Doris attended Chehalis schools, graduating from Chehalis High School in 1938. In 1941, she married Norman Hamilton and they had 45 years to enjoy their small farm and their second home on Mayfield Lake. Norman passed away in 1986.

In 1954, Doris began working at First Federal Savings and Loan of Chehalis (later known as Evergreen Savings) in the bookkeeping department then advanced to vice president and executive secretary, retiring in 1984. In 1988, she married Keith White. They enjoyed many years together traveling and spending time with their family and friends until Keith passed away in 2002.

Doris was very organized and independent, she even took care of her final arrangements including her picture and writing her own obituary. She also quietly supported her community in so many ways, including her church, nonprofit foundations and other organizations. Doris set the example in her banking career practicing confidentiality for the customer and the bank. She was a mentor to her fellow colleagues, her customers, and her family and friends. Doris always focused on what was right and just, and she led by example.

Doris wanted to support and help graduates of W. F. West High School to further their education after high school, so she directed that part of her estate go to the Chehalis Foundation Scholarships in her name.
