Steve Rasmusson Memorial Scholarship

Steve Rasmusson

History:

The Steve Rasmusson Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Steve Rasmusson, who passed away in 2008. It was created by his wife, Diane Rasmusson, and their friends and family. Steve and Diane both graduated from W.F. West High School (1962 and 1965), and after Steve completed the Structural Detailing Program at Tacoma Vocational School (now Bates), they returned to Chehalis in 1968, where they remained part of the community they cherished.

Steve was a man of many talents and passions. An artist at heart, he enjoyed a variety of creative pursuits throughout his life. His artistry ranged from model building, pin striping, and custom painting on motorcycles and helmets to woodworking, sign making, and carving ducks. He also built fishing rods and enjoyed reading, often dedicating time to thoroughly researching his projects.

Steve’s love for people was evident in everything he did. His friendships were lifelong, and his storytelling and wicked sense of humor were legendary. He was generous with his talents, often donating his handmade creations—such as carved ducks and fishing rods—to local auctions. Above all, Steve valued honesty and believed in offering a “hand up, not a hand out,” emphasizing the importance of community support and loyalty.

Scholarship Purpose:

The Steve Rasmusson Memorial Scholarship is intended to support a student who embodies Steve’s values of hard work, creativity, generosity, and community involvement. The scholarship seeks to honor Steve’s commitment to helping others and his appreciation for the arts and craftsmanship.
