Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Program

This initiative equips students with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to thrive in STEM careers and higher education. The program fosters innovation, critical thinking, and real-world application through state-of-the-art labs, expert mentorship, and competitive opportunities.

About the Project

The STEM program at W.F. West High School and across the Chehalis School District is dedicated to advancing STEM education through cutting-edge facilities, hands-on learning, and mentorship opportunities. In partnership with the Chehalis Foundation, the district provides students with unmatched resources to explore science, technology, engineering, and math at an advanced level.

Key features of the program include:

  • Molecular Genetics Lab – the most advanced high school lab of its kind in Washington
  • Custom-built digital scanning electron microscope for enhanced scientific research
  • Middle School Math Initiative – year-round math tutors, coaches, and a four-week Summer Math Academy
  • High School STEM Courses, including Mobile App Development, Robotics, and MATLAB
  • Summer STEM Academy, attended by 120 students, featuring hands-on drone-building projects

Due to these efforts, the Chehalis School District has been named a state-designated “Lighthouse” for STEM education, with students excelling in national and regional competitions in Molecular Genetics and Robotics.
