Chehalis Foundation West/Coffman Scholarship

Chehalis Foundation and W. F. West Alumni

History:

The Chehalis Foundation Scholarship program began in 2001 as Chehalis Dollars for Scholars. Four W. F. West High School graduates from the Class of 1965—Rene Remund, Bob Spahr, Diane Rasmusson, and Linda Smith—suggested to their classmates that instead of charging for their reunions, they could donate to scholarships for deserving W. F. West graduates. The Class of ’65 held reunions every five years but has met annually since 2010. Their first fundraiser raised $4,000, awarding four scholarships to the Class of 2001. The following year, five scholarships were awarded. Since 2001, the Class of ’65 has helped five to eight students each year.

Other alumni, including the Class of ’63 and the Classes of the ‘50s, have also funded scholarships in memory of loved ones and community leaders.
