Denny Daniels/Harry Gust Wrestling Scholarship

In honor of Coach Denny Daniels and Coach Harry Gust

History:

Coach Harry Gust and Coach Denny Daniels are legends in the W. F. West wrestling community. Their careers, spanning from 1960 to 2001, helped shape the program into one of the most successful in the state. Coach Gust, with his wealth of wrestling knowledge, set high standards for work ethic, dedication, and sportsmanship, which he demonstrated both as a wrestler and as a coach, culminating in a PAC 8 wrestling championship.

Coach Daniels, who served as an assistant coach under Harry for 14 years, carried forward these values and continued to lead the wrestling program to success. Under their guidance, the W. F. West wrestling program saw 15 league championships, 64 state placers, and 8 individual state champions. Both coaches were renowned for their close relationships with their wrestlers, helping them grow not only as athletes but as individuals.

Scholarship Purpose:

To honor the contributions of Coaches Denny Daniels and Harry Gust by supporting students who exemplify the same work ethic, dedication, and sportsmanship that these two coaches instilled in their wrestling program.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to W. F. West High School wrestling athletes
  • Must have demonstrated a strong work ethic, dedication, and sportsmanship in their athletic career
  • Must be active in the W. F. West wrestling program

Selection Considerations

Award recipients will be chosen based on their representation of the core values promoted by Coaches Gust and Daniels. These include:
