Edward D. Neumann Scholarship

In Memory of Mr. Neumann

History:

After retiring from Shell Oil Company in 1987, Mr. Neumann and his wife, Evelyn, moved to Chehalis to spend more time with their only grandson. A year later, he began volunteering as a tutor with the Chehalis School District. What started as a couple of days a week tutoring students soon turned into a 21-year commitment. During this time, Mr. Neumann became beloved by both staff and students, especially fond of developing a math enhancement program for 4th grade students, which became one of his favorite memories.

Mr. Neumann greatly valued the relationships he built with the students, appreciating how they enriched his life. In honor of their impact on him, Mr. Neumann established this scholarship as a way to say thank you to the students of Chehalis for the joy they brought him. He passed away in 2020, but his love for education continues through this legacy endowment, which will provide scholarships to students every year.

Scholarship Purpose:

The Mr. Neumann Memorial Scholarship was created to support students who exemplify the love of learning and the values Mr. Neumann held dear during his 21 years of volunteering in the Chehalis School District. The scholarship serves as a thank you to the community that enriched Mr. Neumann’s life and continues his passion for education.
