Iron King Scholarship

Shawn King was involved in metal trades for 34 years. A 1983 W.F. West graduate, Shawn achieved an Associates in Technical Arts for welding in 1987 from Centralia College. He spent eight years as a foreman for Klein Bicycle Corporation. He later worked as a production manager for Kinesis USA Incorporated, shop manager for Richmond Systems Incorporated, and for 22 years, as a welder for Bonneville Power. Additionally, his local business, Iron King, has been highly regarded for its custom metal fabrication.

Shawn has been a mentor and an inspiration to others in the industry and community. His investment in people and commitment to quality work have made him respected and loved by many. The Iron King Scholarship recognizes students who are pursuing career pathways in welding and metals technology. Students must receive a certificate of proficiency in the pathway they are pursuing in addition to maintaining good attendance, character, and active community service. This scholarship is awarded to students attending college training or trade programs, as well as apprenticeships.

Iron King Scholarship Details

Amount: $2000.
(recipients may re-apply after graduation)

Management: All collected proceeds will be managed through the Chehalis Foundation

Number of Recipients: 2 annually
(If no applications meet the expectations, then the scholarship will not be awarded)

Qualifications:
Candidates must have achieved a Certificate of Proficiency in Welding or Metals Technology.
Candidates must be pursuing post-secondary training in college, trade, or apprenticeship programs specifically related to welding and metal fabrication.
Candidates must foster strong community service.
Candidates must have satisfactory school attendance and no high school disciplinary record.
